This should be a strong contender if you want a 4 megapixel camera with a difference. It has a look and feel unique to the brand and a robust, slim metal body. A 7.3-21.9mm f/2.8-3.4 lens is fitted and this 3x optical zoom can be combined with an excellent 1/2000sec to 8secs shutter speed range. Then there’s the whopping macro focus, down to 1cm. Images are viewed on a fold-up or down 2in LCD. Lift the screen to reveal a keypad for adjusting menus and setting features such as macro, white balance and exposure compensation. SmartMedia cards slip below, plus the camera has its own 8Mb internal memory. Shots are created as a maximum 2272x1704 pixels across a 150-800 ISO sensitivity. A specialist feature is a time-lapse capability, but the rest is more conventional, such as multi-pattern, spot, or centreweighted metering, with program exposure. Images are saved as JPEG files and uploaded via a USB interface.
