We've seen tough compact cameras which are waterproof, dustproof and shockproof but how about one that's chemical-resistant? Well, the new Ricoh G900 is actually that.

The heavy-duty digital camera is highly resistant to water, dust, shock and chemicals making it ideal for use in challenging worksite situations such as on construction sites, for disaster relief workers or for those who work in the healthcare industry where they're subject to water, rain, dust and dirt.

It's not actually the first time we've seen a chemical-resistant camera as the Ricoh G800 released in 2014 was also chemical-resistant but the new G900 adds a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with approximately 20.0 effective megapixels, is approximately 26% more compact than its predecessor and can withstand falls from 2.1m.

"Its downsized body improves portability, its accessible button positioning enhances operability, and its flawlessly contoured grip ensures a firm hold on the camera. It also inherits the wide neck strap of its predecessor, which enables two-point, cross-shoulder suspension for easy carrying and handling at worksites," says Ricoh.

As well as been drop-proof, the G900 is waterproof to a depth of 20 metres and for up to two hours of continuous operation, cold-resistant to temperatures as low as -10 degrees C and crushproof against weights of up to 100kgf (kilogram-force). This business-use model is also highly resistant to chemicals, such as ethanol, sodium hypochlorite, and liquid chlorine dioxide solutions used as fungicidal food additives.

An enhanced Camera Memo function reduces the workload needed in post-shooting data management and there's a password-protected camera lock function built in.

Other functions include a six-LED macro ring light around the lens, a GPS module, 3.0-inch LCD monitor, electronic level, transparency guide and 6.5GB of built-in memory.

The Ricoh G900 is priced at £699 and will be available from May 2019 at retail and B2B.
