'Unlucky Perch' by Magnus McLeod
The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards is back, and is now accepting entries until Friday 18 August.
There is a new ‘Mobile Phone’ category to provide a fresh challenge, reflecting the important photographic role played by mobile devices in our lives today. Any mobile device can be used in this category, which is aimed at all skill levels, from beginners to complete pros.
The judging panel for 2017 will include long standing judge, wildlife expert and BBC Springwatch presenter Chris Packham, alongside leading wildlife photographers, Jules Cox, Andrew Forsyth and Elliott Neep. Also in the judging lineup will be aspiring professional wildlife photographers and former winners Catriona Parfitt (2005 and 2010) and Kyle Moore (2016).
Springwatch presenter and judge Chris Packham said: “I have been judging the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards for many years and I am always amazed by the high standard of entries. We see some incredibly beautiful images of wildlife and this year I’m hoping to see fantastic pictures of animals taken with devices like mobile phones and tablets. Photographs of any animals can be entered into the competition. It could be a pet dog, a cat, or maybe your rabbits. And if you don't have a pet why not head out into the countryside for some wildlife? Or if you see a bird or other animal on your way to school, you could take a picture of that. This is a such a brilliant competition as it really makes us stop, look at and think about the animals around us. Some of the photos we have seen have captured really magical moments and I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s entries."
The overall prize is a weekend photography break and up to £800 of photographic vouchers from Wex Photographic for the category winners. Winners will also receive a trophy and certificate.
