256GB EVO Plus MicroSDXC UHS-I Card

Samsung memory stands out from the crowd with its '4-proof' technology, meaning the cards are temperature proof, waterproof, shock proof and magnet proof. Samsung has an updated range of EVO+ microSDXC memory cards, updating the speed as well as the capacity. The card comes with an SD adapter.

The microSDXC card comes with a 10 year warranty and the latest model is UHS I - U:3 / Class 10 cards so should be extremely quick. The EVO+ is great for those with Full HD / 4K action cams and smartphones with a massive capacity of 256GB. With this in mind, let's see how it perform in our test.

The Samsung microSDXC memory cards are waterproof, x-ray proof, temperature proof and magnetic-proof. The range of memory cards is now simplified so that there is the EVO Plus and PRO Plus range. The EVO Plus range is an affordable performance option, while the PRO+ range offers the highest performance possible.

  • UHS I / U:3 (EVO+), Class 10 cards

  • Temperature proof
  • X-ray proof
  • 10 year warranty

Samsung EVO+ MicroSDXC Memory Card Performance

To test the read and write times of these cards, we used a USB 3.0 card reader and CrystalDiskMark 5.2.0 x64. For digital cameras, the write time is the most important aspect as this determines how quickly you can write photos from the camera to the card. The read time is important when you want to copy the photos from the card onto your PC or view them in playback mode on the camera.

  Read MB/s Write MB/s
Samsung EVO Plus 256GB MicroSDXC UHS I U:3 Class 10 93.14 85.29
Samsung PRO+ 64GB MicroSDXC UHS I U:3 Class 10  94.34 84.14
Sandisk Extreme Pro 8GB SDHC UHS I U:1 Class 10 51.08 42.58
Samsung EVO+ 128GB MicroSDXC UHS I U:1 Class 10 88.70 26.98
Leef Pro 16GB MicroSDHC UHS I U:1 Class 10  31.99 7.082

While read and write speeds from the Samsung EVO+ MicroSDXC card are not as quick as specified on the box, the card does deliver extremely high read and write speeds, and quicker performance than the Sandisk Extreme Pro card. The Samsung card is also quicker than a number of other high-speed cards.

Value For Money

The updated Samsung EVO+ 256GB U:3 MicroSDXC card will be available from the end of May for £173, compared to £164 for a 256GB Sandisk Ultra. The Samsung EVO+ 128GB U:3 MicroSD card will be available for £78.99 with the adapter, compared to around £40.99 for a 128GB Sandisk Ultra with adapter. These cards are pretty evenly matched, with the Samsung edging it giving a 10 year warranty for peace of mind.
