Samsung Is Working On More Folding Smartphone Designs

Even though the Samsung Galaxy Fold isn't available for purchase yet, the smartphone giant is said to be working on two more foldable smartphones which we could see later this year.

Samsung is making a serious dent in the foldable smartphone market, reports suggest, with news emerging that the company is working on two more folding smartphone designs.

Blomberg reports that a clamshell-like device and another similar to the Huawei Mate X, which folds outwards, could be revealed later this year or early next year.

Even though Samsung hasn't commented on the new design, Bloomberg's source says the outward folding smartphone will be thinner than current designs and an in-display fingerprint sensor could make an appearance.

Samsung, like some of the other big smartphone manufacturers, are hoping new technology and more megapixels will, once again, persuade consumers to spend money on premium smartphones rather than going with a more reasonably priced smartphone or holding off on an upgrade, which some have been doing due to the small design changes we've seen of late when new devices have been introduced.

As well as folding smartphones, Samsung Executive Vice President Chung Eui-suk says he also expects to see smartphones with displays that can be stretched and rolled up, perhaps so we can wear a smartphone as a smartwatch...

We said towards the end of last year that folding smartphones were going to be a big thing in 2019 and so far, we're not wrong with Samsung, Huawei showing off folding designs and OPPO debuting a folding device on social media. The Xiaomi press team has also given a statement about the Xiaomi folding phone saying its in testing but only prototypes will be available for now.

Other trends we've seen, so far, this year are dewdrop or in-screen front-facing cameras, huge amounts of megapixels and a real focus on producing better low light images. OPPO is also bringing lossless zoom tech to smartphones which give users up to 10x optical zoom.
