From Samyang: February 19th 2021, Seoul, South Korea - Global optics brand Samyang Optics announced that it has joined ITC, IMAGO Technical Committee as a corporate member representing its cine lens brand XEEN. The brand aims to develop user-centric cinema lenses to support cinematographic storytelling by interacting with cinematographers and scientists.
IMAGO, the International Federation of Cinematographers, is an active global network created to bring cinematographers together to discuss solutions to common challenges, promote the art of cinematography globally, and share experience and knowledge. ITC is a sub-committee of IMAGO to focus on the art of cinematography and the technologies cinematographers use and encourages an open discussion between cinematographers, manufacturers and technicians.
XEEN Product Development Manager Jeremy Shin said, “By joining the ITC, we will develop a reliable and creative lens that meets global standards. It is an honor to interact and have a vigorous discussion with renowned cinematographers and scientists of the community. We will strengthen the capacity of XEEN as a game changer in cinematography industry to break down the limitations and reach for new audience.”
Expanded from XEEN cine prime lens lineup, XEEN CF was introduced in 2019 and now has 5 focal lengths from 16mm to 85mm. Carbon Fiber is selected as the new material to maintain robustness and reduce lens weight in spite of the challenge to mold and use it in high precision optical industry. This lightweight body can flexibly respond to various shooting environments including weight-sensitive equipment such as drones and gimbals to capture various images. Also, XEEN CF delivers the sharpness of a modern lens in 8K resolving power for full-frame coverage but with characteristics of a vintage lens.
