Sharp has announced a new 20 megapixel 1/2.3inch CCD sensor for compact digital cameras, the sensor uses 1.20 micron pixels, supports 720p 30fps video and will go into manufacture in August this year. Sharp say that due to new light focusing technology the 20 megapixel sensor offers the same light sensitivity as current 16 megapixel CCD sensors of the same size. Sharp also give details of how much the sensor costs, pricing it at 2300 yen including tax, which is £17.67 at current exchange rates. (via PhotographyBLOG)
