The angle at which you shoot your image can have a great impact on how the image looks.

We are tempted to often shoot from a standing position, which is sometimes not an ideal angle to photograph certain objects, which can be better represented by crouching down, or even getting higher up, as we show here using the Pentax K-50:

In the image above, for example, it was necessary to crouch down low to the level of the sheep, avoiding the impression of towering over the animal that you often get from shooting stood up. This also allowed for getting a better balance of land and sky, with the horizon line and hills in the foreground just about in the middle of the image.

Shooting From A Different Perspective: Wavy ground

In the image above, the waves in the land in the foreground have been emphasised by getting lower to the ground. If the image were taken standing up, much of the wavy effect would have been lost, along with that extra layer of interest.

Getting higher up and looking down on objects can also work well for certain subjects. Sometimes, you can't photograph the best angle of something without shooting from above it. In the above image of a tree stump, for example, it was necessary to stand on tiptoes and point the camera directly downwards to capture the intricate detail of the rings where the tree had been cut.
