50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC APO OS HSM

Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd have announced that the suggested retail price of the new 50-150mm f/2.8 DC OS HSM is £949.99. This new lens will be available in the UK in mid April for Canon fit and mid May for Nikon and Sigma fit.

Key features

  • Large aperture telephoto zoom lens for digital SLRs
  • Sigma’s proprietary Optical Stabilisation system
  • Rounded 9 blade aperture
  • HSM for fast and quiet autofocus
  • Compatible with Sigma EX DG APO Tele-Converters
Sigma’s proprietary OS (Optical Stabiliser) system enables hand held tele-photography by allowing the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible.

Six SLD glass elements compensate for chromatic aberrations and provide high image quality throughout the zoom range. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and ensures sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum apertures.

The lens design adopts an inner focusing and inner zooming system to provide convenient handling and the HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed autofocus while allowing full-time manual focus override.

This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 80cm (31.5 inch) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.3. The rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. The addition of Sigma’s Tele Converter 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO produces a 70-210mm f/4 AF telephoto zoom lens or 100-300mm f/5.6 AF telephoto zoom respectively.

Is it odd that it only lists Canon EF-S mounts not EF?

Interesting lens kit idea - using a Tele Converter instead of 2nd & 3rd lenses.
Jack, it's a dc lens so it will be for aps-c sensor cameras

i'm actually really looking forward to this lens!

Ah, thanks Chris. Smile I'd not seen this.
It's ok, i never knew until last year Smile I believe technically the will filt nikon full frame cameras (IE D700) because they have an option to use a smaller section of the sensor for faster shooting but other then that is just us small sensor users Smile
