At Photokina in September 2018, Sigma announced it was developing an L-mount mirrorless camera equipped with a full-frame Foveon sensor but now, Sigma has said the camera has been delayed and they can't say for certain when it will be made available.
Sigma had hoped it would be ready for 2020 but, currently, they can't say when the full-frame Foveon X3 sensor will be put into mass production.
In a statement, Sigma Chief Executive Officer Kazuto Yamaki has said that they want to start the project again with a clean slate, putting the camera production plan back to the drawing board and going back to the development of sensor technologies.
"I would like to express my deepest apologies for failing to meet your expectations and having to share this disappointing news," Sigma Chief Executive Officer Kazuto Yamaki.
