Sony Alpha A99 II (2)

The Sony Alpha A99 Mark II surprised everyone at Photokina 2016, simply because Sony managed to keep it a secret, right up until the launch event. It also shows Sony is still commited to the Sony Alpha A-mount system. The Sony A99-II uses the same 42.4 megapixel Full-Frame BSI CMOS sensor, as found in the Sony Alpha A7R Mark II

I think two things should be noted here:

If Sony can use the same sensor and a lot of other shared components in different bodies then it would make no sense to leave a whole market of A mount owning photographers to swap to rival brands.

The 'improved' menu system is something of a misnomer. Regardless of where menu items are to be found they will need to be memorised by the user. It may be that the trick of memory is helped a little here, but I have never thought the Sony system is as bad as made out to be, because there are always choices to be made regarding selections that can be applied to both stills and videos (personally, I think they would have been better duplicating entries to allow easier discovery).

If they really want a better system, they should implement a fully customisable interface, where you could put items under your own labels and hide anything that is rarely used. Even if this would be too tricky to do in camera then create a desktop app to allow external manipulation. It's not as though you need to do it more than once!

Come on Sony, add the 1:1 aspect ratio too!
