Sony has announced a new RX10 model, the RX10 IV. The new model features the world's fastest AF speed of 0.03 seconds according to Sony, and also has 315 focal plane phase detection AF points covering approximately 65% of the frame.

The bridge style camera sports a 24-600mm f/2.4-4 ZEISS Vario Sonnar T* lens. It has a 1 inch CMOS stacked image sensor with DRAM chip along with a powerful image processor.

A first for Sony’s RX10 series of cameras, the new RX10 IV model features a Fast Hybrid AF system that combines the respective advantages of 315 phase-detection AF points covering approximately 65% of the sensor and contrast-detection AF to ultimately enable the camera to lock focus in as little as 0.03 seconds.

Other AF improvements in the new RX10 IV camera include an enhanced version of the popular Eye AF, Touch Focus and Focus Range Limiter.  AF-ON setting is also assignable, as well as multiple AF modes including AF-S, AF-C and AF-A, which can be easily adjusted based on user preferences and shooting situations.

An ideal complement to the AF system, the RX10 IV offers continuous high-speed shooting at up to 24 fps with full AF/AE tracking, with an impressive buffer limit of up to 249 images.

The RX10 IV also has a high-speed Anti-Distortion Shutter (maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32000 second) that reduces the “rolling shutter” effect commonly experienced with fast moving subjects, and can shoot completely silently in all modes, including continuous high-speed shooting, when electronic shutter is engaged.  A mechanical shutter mode is also available as well if required by the user.

The RX10 IV can record 4K and has a Fast Hybrid AF system that offers a focussing speed of around 2x faster than its predecessor, the RX10 III. The RX10 IV is dust and moisture resistant and also features Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth compatibility.

The new Sony Cyber-shot RX10 IV camera will ship in October for approximately £1,800 (ERP).

Was looking forward to this being released at some point - havean original RX10, and image quality is superb, and handling also good ( like the control rings andEV compensation wheel, even if slow in operation). Got a Canon G3X for the longer reach, but disappointed in quality of lens at longer end, let alone crippled ServoAF and burst rate.
This would be ideal.

Then I saw the price. One thousand and eight hundred pounds....... ye gods.
I am sure it is a very good camera, and the lens is better than the Canon, but 1800 is a large sum for what is a compact camera with a largish sensor. (1/2 size of MFT, 1/4 size of 35mm )

But. If the image quality at 600mm and f4 prints to 24x36 inches and the burst and keeper rate is high as expected - it may, just may be worth it.

Bread and water for 6 months.....
