In a pre-PMA press release, Sony have announced that they intend to
market a digital SLR compatible with Konica Minolta's Dynax/Maxxum
lenses much sooner than many thought they would.
The transfer of Konica Minolta's lens mount patents and technology will
be completed on March 31st 2006. Sony aim to have their own digital SLR
ready for announcement by the end of summer this year.
The camera will probably take the form of a re-badged Konica Minolta
camera, but this will still be the first important step towards Sony
becoming a major player in the digital SLR marketplace
On March 31 2006, Sony will receive certain assets from Konica Minolta
PI that are necessary for the development, design, production and so
forth of digital SLR cameras compatible with Konica Minolta PI's
Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system (an original lens mount system to
connect camera body and lens adopted in Konica Minolta Maxxum/Dynax
series SLR cameras) Sony will accelerate development of new digital SLR
cameras based on and compatible with the Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system
with a view to marketing these models this summer.
