We go hands on with the new Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens announced. The new power zoom lens available for the Sony NEX system, is designed for smooth zooming during video. On the side there are several switches, one to switch between manual and power (servo) zoom, with the front ring controlling zoom, and the ring closest to the camera body for focus. There is another switch to set the zoom speed, High, Medium, or Low as well as the zoom control for power zoom.

The lens is quite large, particularly when paried with one of the more compact Sony NEX bodies, such as the Sony NEX-5R shown above, and there is no tripod socket underneath. However, it's expected to be popular for those who wish to record video with larger Sony NEX bodies, or Sony NEX camcorders. The price is expected to be around £1000, with availability expected in February. We plan to review the new lens when available. If the size, weight, and look of the lens on camera doesn't turn you off, the price certainly will.
