Technical Editor, Joshua WallerThe new Sony NEX-6 is a new mirrorless camera designed to fit in-between the NEX-5R and NEX-7.  It is targeted towards DSLR users, with Wi-Fi built in. Sony sees the market trend of ILC (interchangeable lens cameras) reaching maturity / saturation in Sony's eyes, but with CSC (compact system cameras) continuing to grow.

Sony NEX-6 Key Features:

  • APS-C 16.1mp, ISO25600
  • Phase detection + contrast-detection AF, 10fps shooting, continuous AF
  • intuitive dslr like operation, mode dial, control dial underneath mode dial, rear control wheel, Fn buytton
  • EVF, OLED XGA, 2359k dot resolution, 100% coverage, (A77/NEX-7 same)
  • Built in flash, multi-interface shoe - standard hot-shoe socket with pins to access sony accessories (camcorder accessories) HVL-F60M (generic hot-shoe socket!)
  • Expanded frunctionality with Playmemories camera app (same apps as Sony NEX-5R)
  • Wi-Fi support

The Sony NEX-6 will be available as three different kits: NEX-6 body only £710, NEX-6 kit with 16-50mm power zoom lens, £830, NEX-6 dual lens kit with 16-50mm, 55-210mm kit, £1030 all black. Due for November shipment.

It's worth noting that the Sony NEX-6 features a standard flash hot-shoe on top, and we are particularly impressed by the compact 16-50mm lens, which is wider than the standard kit lens, giving the equivalent of 24mm at the wide end, and the lens is particularly compact.
