The Sony Xperia 5 II priced at around £799 over on Amazon which puts it in a similar price bracket to the Google Pixel 4 XL, OnePlus 8T and Samsung Galaxy S10. You could also consider Huawei's latest smartphone or if you have less cash to spend, something from Honor might be better suited. 

If you have more cash to splash then there's the Sony Xperia 1 II, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or the popular S20 or S20 Plus.

Sony Xperia 5 II Verdict

The Sony Xperia 5 II smartphone takes what we liked about the Sony Xperia 1 II but puts it into a smartphone that's smaller, easier to hold and has a slightly better price tag. We say 'slightly' as it's still expensive but if you want a smartphone with premium tech that's not priced at over £1000, the Xperia 5 II could be for you.

With its smaller size, decent camera, Pro mode if you want it and a headphone jack, to name but a few of the plus points, it's a Sony smartphone that's well worth considering. Plus, if you have the patience to learn how a Pro app works, you'll be rewarded with great looking photos but there's no reason you can't capture excellent images with the normal auto mode either as results are accurate and AF is quick. 4K video at 120fps may be tempting, particularly for videographers.

The longer/taller screen still won't be for everyone but it is useful for watching films/tv shows and for viewing images on. 

If you're looking for a smaller Sony Xperia smartphone with a great display that captures true to life images, you should put the Xperia 5 II on your list.
