Sony Xperia XZ3 Announced With 19MP & 13MP Cameras And A Big, Curved Screen

The Sony Xperia XZ3 is a new flagship smartphone that features a 19MP, 25mm f/2.0 rear camera with x8 digital zoom and a 13MP f/1.9 selfie camera with autofocus.

The main camera features Sony's Motion Eye camera system (predictive capture) and the smartphone is also equipped with 'smart launch' that uses AI to prepare the camera ready for use when the user holds their phone up in landscape mode. The camera user interface is familiar but it has had a redesign to be more intuitive in use and there's a new portrait selfie mode for skin tone touch-ups as well as capturing background bokeh. 5-axis Image Stabilisation is built in but it's only digital - not optical. 

The ISO range reaches 12800 when capturing stills and 4000 when shooting video, which can be captured at 960fps (super slo-mo) as well as in 4K. 

As for the screen, this is an HDR-compatible 6.0-inch OLED curved display, featuring a QHD+ (2880x1440) 18:9 aspect ratio and the smartphone comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform.

The camera UI isn't the only user interface to get a revamp as the general UI on the Xperia XZ3 has had a rework to make it smarter and you can now, also, double-tap anywhere on either side of the display to access the app launcher which, over time, will feature the apps/quick settings the smartphone thinks you will want to access most often.

A 3300mAh battery is built in along with 64GB of internal memory and 4GB RAM. Other features include Qi wireless charging compatibility and water/dust resistance. 

The Xperia XZ3 will launch on the latest Android 9 Pie in September. Price TBC.
