Photographing Spring In Your Local Area

I ventured out into my local area with the Pentax K-50 last weekend.  

Spring brings a theme of 'yellow' to the small village where I live, because of all the oil seed rape plants in the fields surrounding it. This gave me to opportunity to experiment with shooting spring flowers in a variety of different ways. 


I had a go at getting close and shooting upwards towards the sky, but because of the gusty wind on the day, my shots blurred. Widening the aperture allowed me to use a faster shutter speed, but this meant I had a shallower depth of field to play with. I feel the image above works well because as well as signifying spring in the flowers, the out of focus farm building and houses in the background create an idyllic feel that is almost painterly. 



I came across a small fledgling bird in my garden one evening. It was just sitting in the middle of the lawn, so I took a few shots using my macro lens before moving away so that the parents could come down and find it.  I like how the flowers in the background have a touch of bokeh to them, adding a bit more background interest to the shot. The Pentax 35mm macro lens is great for creating bokeh shots.
