Striking B&W Portrait Awarded POTW : Dahlia

A striking black and white portrait has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade this week.

The image, taken by ePz member sidcollins is called 'Dahlia', and here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade:

This is a piercing portrait of an interesting individual that really captures the viewer's attention. The black and white format makes the image really contrasty and punchy. Make-up has been applied effectively to give darker areas around the eyes and lips, toning in with the earrings and hair as well.

The portrait has a very 80's, punky vibe, thanks to the square crop and heavy contrast. It's perfectly composed with the model right in the centre and just the right amount of breathing space.

Photo of the week winners currently receive a 32GB EVO MicroSD card with SD adapter courtesy of Samsung. See all the winners in the POTW gallery.
