A beautifully sharp image of a swallowtail has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade.
The image 'Scarce Swallowtail on Lavender' by ePz member BydoR9 has scooped the accolade this week and here's why we thought it stood out from the bunch:
This is a great example of a butterfly study - the subject is on a lavender sprig, adding lots of rich and vibrant colours. The butterfly itself is in great form and has really beautiful markings with the delicate wing tails really set it off.
A lot of butterfly studies feature a green background, so it's nice to have a more muted background with some beiges and browns in the mix to really make the subject pop.
It's composed well with a quirky diagonal angle to the subject and the butterfly fills the frame without making the image feel too cramped. A masterful photo.
Photo of the Week winners are awarded a 32GB MicroSDHC memory card with SD adapter courtesy of Samsung. Take a look at all the images that have won the accolade in the POTW gallery.
