The cat camera was so popular, we had to get it back. It has four magnetic feet, interval timer, and records VGA videos. The cat camera is available for £140 with a screen an optional extra at £80. The camera comes with english instructions.
 

The cat cam is still cute and easy to use, although I liked the stripped version much more!

The magnetic feet make it easy to shoot self portraits and when combined with the timer, which can take shots at various intervals,you can shoot some really interesting images, especially if you set it up and leave it for a while.

Not knowing what image you have captured until you plug it into the computer can be fun and frustrating at the same time. Why? Well, you can't retake a shot once you're back home but then again it's fun to find the surprise shots that really do work too.

It's a fun camera that got plenty of attention from friends and strangers who asked what I was doing holding what looked like a toy cat in the air.

The price is still a little high though which is a shame as it's something I know plenty of people would buy if it was more reasonable.

Superheadz Minimo-X Digital.Omo

This claims to be the DigitaL.omo - get it? Digital Lomo? No, okay, well it offers multiple exposure shots, and comes with a keyring attachment. The Minimo-X is the cheapest of the three cameras here, available for £85. Trying to change to the multiple exposure mode was particularly difficult and in the end I had to email support (at the photographers gallery) for instructions on how to do it as the camera does not come with english instructions. There are just three buttons on the back, Menu / Up / Down and the shutter button on the top. The top shutter button is used to switch the camera on.
 

English instructions would really help get the best out of this camera. The camera also tends to default to 2 megapixels when switched on. EXIF information isn't stored in the photos. The live view on the back of the camera is very slow to update and even though you can see what you're taking a photo of, the results captured can be very hit and miss. More often than not it's the later. Half the time viewing the photos you don't know whether it's a result of using one of the multiple exposure modes or whether it's just that the camera wasn't held perfectly still while taking the photo. Due to using a CMOS sensor, the camera exhibits photos with a rolling shutter.

Gizmon Half-D

The Gizmon Half-D is perhaps the most traditional of the three cameras, but also includes some of the most options and effects. It also helps that it has a larger screen and menu options that you can choose. (Rather than complete guesswork on the Cat, and some guesswork on the Omo). The Gizmon Half D is available for £110. It comes with quick start instructions telling you what the controls do, and how to change the language of the camera.
 

The front of the lens is surrounded by metal - this allows the use of numerous magnetically attached Gizmon accessories and lens adapters, to give you fish-eye, wide angle, telephoto or close up options, as well as many more... these attachments are where the creativity and versatility of such a compact camera starts. Unfortunately we didn't have any to test it with.

Gizmon Half-D Sample Photos

 

The Gizmon Half-D is perhaps the most user friendly, as it has a more standard screen and controls on the back (English instructions also help). The front of the lens surround is metal and this lets you use additional lenses. The cat camera is the most impressive design and the inclusion of magnetic feet is a really great idea. The Minimo-X is a neat idea, however the lack of english instructions makes it difficult to get the best out of it and the low quality screen and lack of on screen instructions means most of the time you're left guessing what's going on. The cat camera is the most unique and I think the magnetic feet really help get the best out of it, with its own feet acting as a tripod (and time lapse feature) you're more likely to be keeping the camera still while it takes a photo, which should dramatically improve shot success. Try the Necono Cat Camera or the Gizmon Half-D for some fun. Avoid the Minimo-X, unless you really want to try double exposure shots.
