City lights, stars, lightning storms and satellite flares make up this composite of individual, layered photos.

The above image is a composite of over 400 photos captured by NASA astronaut Christina Koch onboard the International Space Station (ISS).

As the ISS travelled between Namibia and the Red Sea, Christina shot an 11-minute time-lapse and as well as streaks of light from stars, city lights, fires and even thunderstorms have added to the colourful collection of light that fill the frame.

Below the star trails, cities appear as light yellow and white dotted streaks while the thinner orange lines are the glow coming from fires in Angola and the white circles of light are from lightning flashes over Africa.

"It’s amazing what you can capture outside the window of an orbital lab 220 miles above Earth," NASA.

Of course, you don't have to be hurtling around the earth at 7.66km/s to capture a brilliant light trail image as just a few weeks ago, our 'Photo of the Week' winner, CraigBill, shared a photo of Shiprock, New Mexico with a sky bursting with colour and star trails.

Additional images captured by astronauts can be viewed on the Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth website.
