Take a trip down memory lane, with these camera adverts from December 2001, inside the National Geographic, 100 Best Pictures, Collectors Edition Vol 1, including adverts from Canon, Nikon, Leica, Minolta and Sony.

Spread throughout this magazine, from around December 2001 / January 2002, was a number of adverts for cameras, watches, and more, but amongst these adverts, there were also adverts for Kodak's new "Kodak MAX Versatility Plus" film with a film speed rating of 800.
As well as adverts for a range of film cameras, and (mostly) digital cameras, with an advert for the Canon EOS ELAN 7e with eye control, offering up to 4fps continuous shooting. The film camera, also known as the Canon EOS 30, could get through a 24 roll film in 6 seconds!
Have a look at the other adverts where the 5mp digital camera is described as changing "the status quo" and providing "detail within detail".

Nikon Coolpix 5000 - The Nikon Coolpix 5000 was announced in September 2001, as a "Prosumer" digital camera, with an RRP of £1000 GBP. Nikon say that it has changed the status quo, leaving it "tired, bewildered and searching for answers." You can read our review of the Nikon Coolpix 5000 to see how the camera performed.

Minolta Dimage 7 - The Minolta Dimage 7 was from the days of Minolta digital cameras, before they merged with Konica to form Konica Minolta, and before they decided to exit the digital camera business, tranferring assets to Sony. Peter Bargh had a look at the Minolta Dimage 7, in May 2001, and the camera had an RRP of around £1000 GBP.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P50, offers a whopping 2.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 1.5inch colour LCD screen. The Sony Cyber-shot P50 was priced at $500 in February 2001, when it was introduced.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S85: Featuring a 4.1 megapixel Super HAD CCD sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, manual controls, 14-bit A/D conversion, and a 3-shot burst mode with auto exposure bracketing. Sony also had "InfoLithium" batteries. The Super HAD CCD sensor uses a "Four Colour" filter arrangement, for improved colour reproduction. The Sony Cyber-shot S85 was introduced in June 2001, and was Sony's first 4mp camera, with an RRP of $800.
