Tamron 18 200mm VC Lens (4)

The new Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens updates the previous version, by adding Vibration Compensation (VC) optical image stabilisation, an updated DC focusing motor for quicker and quieter focusing, plus it is improved optically and mechanically to offer improved image quality, whilst still remaining extremely good value for money priced at £169 (RRP).

The Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens has a large rubber zoom grip, as well as rubber focus ring, making the lens controls grip well when in the hand, and this makes it easy to turn the zoom and focus rings. There is an AF / MF switch on the side, as well as VC switch, and a lock switch on one side to keep the lens at the 18mm wide-angle setting when transporting the lens.

With a mostly plastic external construction, the lens weighs 400g, which makes it well suited to compact and entry level Digital SLRs, like the Nikon D3300, and despite the lightweight, the lens feels well-built. When using the lens the new DC motor was quiet and quick when focusing. The lens will be available for Canon and Nikon first, followed by a Sony Alpha version without built-in VC (as Sony Alpha DSLRs feature built-in sensor-based image stabilisation).

Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Key Features:

  • 400g – lightest lens in its class
  • VC image stabilizations
  • 7 aperture blades
  • Moisture-resistant construction
  • Rounded aperture blades
  • Zoom lock
  • Fast DC focusing motor

Priced at £169 RRP the costs more than the existing Tamron 18-200mm, and less than Tamron 18-270mm (around £269), but is significantly less expensive than options from other manufacturers with the Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OS priced at around £259, the Canon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS priced at around £360, and the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II priced at around £550! The Tamron lens also comes with a 5-year warranty.
