Snowdrop

The Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens is back out of our camera bag this week as we're photographing another well-known Spring flower but instead of petals that are the colour of the sun, we're focusing on smaller specimens that are the shade of snow.

There's nothing more quintessentially spring than a Snowdrop and with so many breaking up the blankets of green and breaking through woodland floor, now's the perfect time to photograph them.

Flower Photography Indoors

Now, you can get outside with your kneeling pad, plamp and low-laying tripod but if you don't fancy getting muddy, or cold, there's a really simple set-up for your dining room table that you can have a go at from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a flat surface, light from a window, tripod and a camera with a self-timer function, of which, you can pop your Tamron macro lens on.

Backgrounds

You'll need to consider what you're having as a background as houses are full of items that will just distract from the Snowdrop. We opted for a simple black background so the flower really stands out.

Exposure

Once set up, you may need to dial in some negative EV as a white flower can blow highlights, a bit like snow can, but with a DSLR you can easily check your exposure with Live View before hitting the shutter button.

Depth Of Field

Top Tip: Remember, the closer you get to a subject the shallower the depth of field becomes so consider shutting down your aperture to increase the amount of the subject in focus.
