Take a look at this collection of Dragonfly imagery, plus pick up a few macro photography tips.
| SP AF 60mm F/2.0 Di II LD (IF) in Animals / WildlifeUsually, you have to venture to a pond, lake or river to spot Dragonflies but Rick was lucky to spot one on his laurel hedge in his back garden so headed back inside, picked up his Canon DSLR with the Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2.0 Di II LD (IF) Macro lens attached to it and spent some time capturing the series of shots shown in the gallery below.
For the featured image, shown above, Rick did a little processing, mainly to make the Dragonfly a little more distinct from its fairly unattractive background. As the Tamron 60mm f/2 Macro is a really sharp lens, no sharpening was required during post either.
When capturing his shots, Rick just had to remember to reduce the aperture a little to gain enough depth of field, something which can be a little tricky when doing these types of shot. It's certainly not as easy to create a good amount of bokeh in Dragonfly shots as it is in photos of flowers, particularly if the background is within 20cm of the subject.
