The Tamron 16-300mm is perfect for pet portraits, as Rick found out when photographing his Whippet this weekend.
| Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO in Animals / WildlifeFor millions of people, their pets are as much of a family member as their children and other relatives are so it makes sense that so many want to capture photos of them.
Rick, our blog photographer, has a 6-month old Whippet called Jet who's very much established as a family member so we thought we'd see how well the Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro performed when photographing a young dog.
As a young Whippet, Jet's rather energetic so Rick took him on a rather lengthy walk to tire him out so he'd sit for a longer period of time when back home (might be worth noting that tip if you're thinking of setting up your own pet portrait shoot). A large window behind Rick, illuminating Jet's face, provided plenty of natural light for the shoot and the zoom range of the 16-300mm made it easy for Rick to frame and change composition quickly between shots. The max aperture of the lens also provided just enough pleasing bokeh so Jet was the sole focus of the photographs.
This won't be the last time you'll be seeing photos of Jet in the blog as Rick's hoping to capture some images of him at full speed which for a Whippet, is pretty fast so it should be a good test of the lens as well as Rick's panning skills.
