Top Lens Choices For Landscape Photography: Deer

This time of year, you can capture some lovely landscapes including the fresh greenery and newborn livestock that will be roaming the fields. Here is some advice on which lenses will be best to use for spring landscapes:

All-In-One Zooms - The beauty of all-in-one zooms is that they range from a wide-angle right through to a 200-300mm zoom, making the lens ideal for wide vistas of the rolling hills or a more specific part of the landscape. Tamron is well known for their high-quality all-in-one zooms and there are currently 4 available: the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3, 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3, 18-200 Di III f/3.5-6.3 VC, and the 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC. These lenses will be perfect for keeping your kit minimal while you head out into the countryside due to their versatility.

Fast zoom - Fast zoom lenses are great if you want to use a wider aperture to let more light into your image. You might get a slightly smaller reach, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue for landscapes. A faster zoom will be handy for shooting in gloomy conditions, for example in the shadow of a building or under the shade of the trees, when that slightly wider aperture will help you get more light into the image without having to slow the shutter speed down or adjust the ISO. Tamron fast zooms include the 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II VC and the 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di.

Ultra-wide zoom - An ultra-wide zoom will be ideal if you want to capture the whole vista you see. This type of lens can cause distortion to closer objects in the frame, however this can add to the shot if used creatively. For example, having trees at either side of the image that curve around the landscape will frame it and help guide the eye. Tamron's 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 DI-II is an ultra-wide zoom lens worth looking at.
