We managed to get our hands-on the new G2 version of the highly popular SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD telephoto zoom lens, the SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, which offers enhanced performance, and improved ergonomics.
The lens features faster and more accurate AF, enhanced VC (Vibration Compensation) for up to 4.5 stops of image stabilisation, and an improved optical design with 21 elements in 13 groups (compared to 20 elements in the previous lens). The lens also offers an improved close focusing distance of 2.2m (compared to 2.7m for the previous version).
In addition, the lens adds a FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism, Fluorine Coating, a moisture resistant construction, and the tripod mount is compatible with Arca-Swiss style tripods. The lens feels very well-built, and has a more premium design and look to it, with a high quality finish. You can view more photos of the new lens below:
