Tamron have recently announced 2 new teleconvertors along with the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 lens.
Teleconvertors can be a useful tool for photographers so here we'll take a closer look at them.
What are teleconverters?
Teleconverters fit between the lens and the camera body and in effect, they multiply the focal length of the lens. Tamron have just launched a 1.4x teleconverter and a 2x teleconverter.
So, adding a teleconverter to the 150-600mm lens would give you an effective focal length of 300-1000mm! What's more, the minimum focusing distance of the lens stays the same so no matter if you're shooting near or far, the only difference will be that depth of field decreases.

Why are they needed?
Teleconverters can be a great help when you like the lens you have but need a bit more reach. If you can't afford another lens or a longer reach lens, then teleconverters offer you a way to get more reach without breaking the bank. Of course, they can also help you reach even further than you thought possible, by adding a teleconverter to a long telephoto lens.
If light loss is a major issue for your images then using a shorter teleconverter will help you preserve more light in the image, (for example using the 1.4 teleconverter rather than the 2x teleconverter.)
Which type of photos can they help out with most?
Teleconverters can be a real help when photographing shy animals. For example, they'll let you get a closer shot of the subject without having to physically get cloer to it. They are also good for photographing places that you can't access for whatever reason, or objects that you can't get next to.
