The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 180-400mm lens is the first from Nikon to include a built-in teleconverter adding an extra 1.4x reach to the lens.

Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) gives you a four-stop advantage, even with the teleconverter activated. SPORT VR reliably tracks fast-moving subjects.
Shoot without worrying about the effects of camera shake. VR technology activates the instant you press the shutter halfway and enables shooting speeds up to four stops slower than otherwise possible. SPORT VR mode delivers a more stable viewfinder image, which is helpful when shooting exceptionally fast action, or when panning.

Typical zoom- and focus-ring positions are reversed for more balanced handling. Both the zoom and focus rings boast a knurled covering that enables a firm grip for smooth control. The tripod collar ring includes bearings to ensure smooth switching between horizontal and vertical orientations. And the integrated tripod foot faces the front of the lens for optimum balance and more comfortable transportation when the lens is attached to a tripod.
