The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2019 has reached its conclusion and is proud to announce that the overall winner of the 2019 competition is Sarah Skinner who captured the image 'Grab life by the...!'.

Sarah captured her image in Botswana and it shows a cub playing with an adult lion... although, the thought of what might have happened next, may make some people's eyes water!

Commenting on her win, Sarah said: "I am absolutely delighted to be awarded the title as Overall Winner in the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2019. It certainly warms my heart to know that this image will spread some laughter and happiness around the world. I am happy to report that this lioness continues to thrive in the pride, having seen her again in October this year. I can only hope and encourage everyone, as a collective to each do our part in the conservation of all wildlife species so that future generations can enjoy them, in the same way that I have done during my career as a wildlife photographer. Long may lions walk the plains."

Sarah's image also scooped up the 'Creatures of the Land' Award while the 'Affinity Photo People's Choice Award', voted for by the public, went to Harry Walker for his shot of a slightly bemused otter taken in Alaska titled 'Oh My'. This image also won the 'Olympus Creatures Under the Water Award'.

Other category winners included Vlado Pirsa's colourful shot of some birds in Croatia, aptly titled 'Family Disagreement' which won the 'Spectrum Photo Creatures of the Air Award' and Elaine Kruer was awarded the 'Amazing Internet Portfolio Award' for 'First Comes Love' a series of 4 images depicting Cape Squirrels in South Africa.

About The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, founded by Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, both professional photographers and passionate conservationists, is a global, online and free to enter photography competition, showcasing seriously funny images of the earth’s most amazing wildlife. In addition to providing some light-hearted relief, the competition aims to highlight the extremely important message of wildlife conservation in an engaging and positive way, working with the main competition partner - The Born Free Foundation. This year, there were 4000 entries from 68 different countries which were then whittled down to 40 finalists.

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards Conservation Message:

  • Shop Responsibly  - Try to shop locally and avoid buying un-recyclable products and one-use plastics/packaging.
  • Restrict Water Use At Home - Ok, this is the thing, each time you flush the loo we send approx. 20 litres of water down the drain - seriously, it’s crazy.  Have shorter showers, water your garden less and stop flushing the loo every single time.  This would save billions of litres of freshwater that could support our environment as well as supply homes and food for a global plethora of wildlife.
  • Become A Wildlife Influencer - This is a special person who may be not a mega activist, but really, really cares about the environment and wants to do something to help.
