The highly anticipated Leica Q2 has arrived, bringing the next generation of the fixed-lens favourite into the hands of fans from today.
| Leica Q2 in Mirrorless Cameras
Leica has expanded its popular Q range with the introduction of the Leica Q2, bringing its predecessor into the next generation of compact cameras.
Inside the Leica Q2, you find a 47.3 full-frame sensor that delivers 95% more resolution than the previous model, the fastest lens in its class, precise autofocus and innovative OLED EVF viewfinder technology. It is also sealed against dust and water spray, features 4K video (3840 x 2160 pixels and frame rates of 30 or 24 fps), wif-fi and has an ISO range that reaches 50,000.
Fans of the Leica Q series will notice that the Leica Q2 keeps the classic design of the iconic Q series and it comes equipped with a fixed Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. prime lens.
The dioptre compensation setting dial on the back of the camera has been redesigned and following the design features of the Leica M10, the shutter release button of the Q2 now controls only the On/Off function (the second detent for the continuous shooting function has been removed and is now in the camera menu). On the back, you find a newly developed, high-resolution OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 megapixels.
The Leica Q2’s integrated digital zoom function has been extended to 75mm, giving users even more flexibility in their image composition. And in addition to the
uncropped 28mm focal length of the camera lens, a crop factor can be selected to simulate images created with 35, 50 or 75mm lenses (the selected crop is displayed as a bright-line frame in the viewfinder and on the rear display panel so it can easily be identified by the user). The cropped image is saved in JPEG format with its respectively reduced resolutions of 47.3, 30, 14.7, or 6.6 megapixels; the uncropped image is also automatically saved as a DNG file with the full resolution of 47.3 megapixels.
According to Leica, the autofocus of the Leica Q2 focuses in less than 0.15 seconds and offers 10fps continuous shooting. Battery life has also been extended to allow up to 350 image capture on one charge.
Additional features include a locking element to select either manual or automatic focusing and the ability to switch into macro mode (17cm close focus distance) via the lens.
