Adobe researchers have found a way to transfer the style of one image to another with a clever algorithm.
| Industry NewsResearchers from Adobe and Cornell University have found a way to transfer the style / look of one image and place it onto another photo.
The process is outlined in a paper titled 'Deep Photo Style Transfer' and, in the most simplest of terms, they've found a way to analyse an image of a sunset and apply the style to a shot captured in the middle of the day without it looking fake.
The research is based on 'style transfer' which already exists in some apps but it's used to create stylistic looks rather than realism. The researchers took this process one step further to produce results that still look like a photo rather than something that's had an art filter applied.
The process does have its limits and it's not perfect but never-the-less, it's a rather clever algorithm and with Adobe's involvement, it does make you think that it is a piece of technology we could all be using in popular photo editing software one day.
Adobe's research team also recently introduced the world to another piece of technology that could reshape how we all use photo editing software and that's with a siri-like assistant for Photoshop.
