The Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition is a popular contest that's been running for 8 years and this year received over 20,000 entries from around the world.

Out of the thousands of entries, Robert Birkby from West Yorkshire was chosen as the overall winner with a snowy scene of sheep sheltering next to a dry stone wall which he entered into the 'Ligh on the land' category.

Commenting on Robert's image, Head judge Steve Watkins said, "Robert's image captures just about every aspect of what is required to be a top-level outdoor photographer."

He continued: " All of the judges had an immediate and strong emotional response to his image, which manages to combine the chilling feeling of being there in the blizzard with the slightest hint of humour at the hopeless predicament of the sheep. It's an outstanding image and fully deserves the Overall Winner award."
