Calling all stock photographers, we have a little more information to share with you on what visual trends will be popular in the photography world this coming year.

We already shared an image trend report earlier this year on what photo themes you should be considering when building your portfolio and now, courtesy of EyeEm, we also have a list of specific colours, subjects and styles people will be searching for.

EyeEm analyses the data their photography community share to compile their trend reports which are influenced by fashion, social developments and current affairs. In the latest report, EyeEm split their research into three chapters and in each one, they explain what makes the particular trend popular, how to spot it and they also explain how you can use the trends in your photos.

Taking a step away from minimalist, muted colours, the report suggests that 'colour blocking' is something that's growing in popularity. Commenting on the theme, EyeEm says: "It’s a visual effect that works by putting contrasting or even complementary colours next to one another. The resulting clash of colours has a captivating dynamic, not least because it's such a departure from the minimalism we’ve become accustomed to seeing."

Other soon-to-be trending colour themes include 'red & black', 'silver' and 'millennial pink' - a colour that has a mixture of peach and salmon tones.

Themes for your portrait shots should include 'Female Power' that show women being naturally confident as well as demonstrating their strengths and 'Post-Gender' - a theme that focuses on how the traditional gender roles have changed over the last few years.

As for 'styles', 'Mess is More', 'Sense of Touch', 'Botanical Worlds' and 'The New Bohemian' are listed by EyeEm as themes for you to start thinking about.

For 'Mess is More', think about filling the frame rather than having lots of space and for a 'Sense of Touch', EyeEm says: "Photographers are suggesting that something has been lost, and they’re expressing it with depictions of the human hand."

'Botanical Worlds' is all about plants and 'The New Bohemian' focuses on travel and how now, travel photos are all about creating a feeling of wanderlust through dramatic scenery and shots that convey plenty of emotion.

Even though new trends are emerging, there are still quite a few old themes that are still proving to be popular and these include 'Neon' and 'Drone'.
