TIME has released a list of 100 images they say are the most influential images of all time.
Described as turning points in our human experience as well as images which have changed the way we think or indeed live, the list is fascinating and features instantly recognisable shots, such as the 'Tank Man', as well as images that might not be so famous but they're on the list as they mark the discovery of photography techniques that have, very much, shaped the way we take photographs today.
So how were the images chosen? Well, the project began with, what seemed like, a straightforward idea; compile a list of the 100 most influential photographs ever taken. The first step was to call in the experts so curators, historians and photo editors around the world were contacted for suggestions. Next, TIME reporters and editors were brought in and thousands of interviews took place.
"It was an exhaustive process that unearthed some incredible stories that we are proud to tell for the first time, in both written stories and original documentary videos," say TIME.
As well as viewing the images, you can click on each individual photograph to explore them in more detail and there are also 20 short documentaries you can watch to learn even more about the stories behind the images.
TIME also put a trailer together all about the photos featured in the top 100 which you can watch below. There's also a discussion taking place over in our forum all about the list.
