Woodland Walk With A Tamron Zoom Lens

If you're heading down to the woods on a family walk or just to get some fresh air on your own, take a Tamron zoom lens such as the 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD along and you'll have more scope for interesting photographs. 

Here are a few ideas for things to photograph in the woods with your Tamron lens:

Trees

Trees will be all around you in the woods and they are very versatile subjects. You can photograph the bark close up, which will make for interesting patterns, or photograph intertwining branches. You can also take a wider view and shoot tress in a line or in an interesting formation for something a little different from the norm. You can also photograph the sun streaming through the trees for dramatic effect, too. 

Wildflowers

All sorts of plants and flowers grow on the forest floor, so it's worth scouting around for some to photograph. At this time of year in the run up to summer, wild garlic flowers will be out and foxgloves may be found around the edges of the wood. These flowers will make for interesting macro shots.

Rivers/streams

Your zoom lens will enable you to get the best view possible of rivers, streams and waterfalls in the woods. You can try some slower exposures to achieve silky smooth water flowing over rocks, or you can use a faster shutter speed to freeze the water in action. Using the zoom lens will enable you to get close-up shots of particular boulders or rocks in the river. 

Fungi

Even though this time of year isn't the prime time for fungi, it will still be around, on tree stumps and fallen trees, for you to photograph. Often, fungi on trees is an interesting colour, and has a variety of textures, allowing you to be more creative with the images. 

Bugs/ Insects

Summer is an ideal time to have a go at photographing the insect life that can be found in the woods. Everything from ants to bumble bees and beetles can be found in the woods, but you'll need a beady eye and a fast shutter speed to be able to capture them without blur.
