Tokina has officially announced the new opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF lens for full-frame Nikon and Canon DSLRs. We first saw the lens at Photokina 2018, behind glass. The lens features an optical construction of 15 elements, in 13 groups, like the previous 16-28mm f/2.8 lens, but the new lens now features 9 aperture blades, for improved bokeh, amongst other changes.

The new lens is slightly lighter, at 940g, and features a new design, internal focus and a focus clutch. You can find sample photos on the Tokina website, and the lens will be available from March.

From Tokina: Inspired by the focal length and aperture of the widely acknowledged Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 PRO FX lens, Tokina opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF has been developed with the same concept as the already released opera 50mm F1.4 FF, to offer the photographers another contemporary tool for professional photography. The Tokina opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF incorporates a complex optical design with 15 elements in 13 groups, 3 of which are of aspherical type including large aspherical P-MO element and 3 are glass molded Low-Dispersion (SD) elements for effective suppression of chromatic and spherical aberrations.
