The Tomy Kiipix is a fully manual smartphone printer that allows you to create Fujifilm Instax Mini images from your smartphone photos, with a real DIY feel. The printer is available in 3 colours - pink, blue and black. It's available through Amazon for £44.95 (black and blue) or £49.89 (pink).

Tomy Kiipix Features

The Tomy Kiipix arrives in its compact state, neatly folded up like a Japanese origami model. The premise is simple - load a cartridge of Instax Mini film (2x 10 packs available for £13.98), and place your phone on the top of the printer, face down, then press the shutter. In practice, there is a little more to consider before you take an image.

The Kiipix looks beautifully neat and tidy when it arrives, but in order to set the printer up into a working state, some assembly is required. Firstly, you need to fold both of the sides into their upright positions. Then you can slide the top plate from the holder, which will pop the camera up, ready to take an image. Then you need to place the plate on the edges of the side flaps, making sure you get it the right way around. There's a side with 2 smaller tabs and one with one long tab. Once in place, it shouldn't slip from side to side.

Essentially what you end up with is a manual, analogue Instax camera. You can then choose an image on your phone, present it to the camera lens by resting the phone on top of the plate and press the shutter button. Then you can wind the 'Print' knob until your image can be pulled free.

The shutter button and print knob are both on one side of the device and that's really all there is to it - once you're done, you can fold everything away.
