If you're looking for a smartphone with a decent camera that won't cost you an arm and a leg, then you've landed on the right page as we've lined-up the most affordable smartphones to date, great for if you're on a budget, and looking for a smartphone under £200

Now, these phones tend to not have the greatest specs in the world but with 12/13MP cameras, the ability to record Full HD video and an abundance of photography apps available, they're great tools for those who want to simply share images to social media or send them to friends/family via WhatsApp, Email etc. Plus, you can connect them up to an Instax Printer and print off really cute, mini instant photos that look great hung in washing line-style frames. They're also a great first phone for nagging teenagers who, obviously, will want the latest-and-greatest devices but in reality, parents may want to spend as little as possible on their first smart device.

At the time of writing, all of these smartphones are available for under £200 but, of course, this can change so some may just creep above the £200 mark.

As with all of our top lists, you can purchase/find more information about each cheap smartphone listed by clicking the green Amazon buttons featured below each product. It doesn't cost you anything extra when you press our Amazon buttons but by using our Amazon Affiliate links when ordering anything online, you are supporting the site - thank you. * Clicking 'Buy on Amazon USA' will redirect you to the Amazon store for your country. 1. Honor 8X  - Under £200

Honor 8X (1)

Here's the thing... the Honor 8X is a brilliant phone for its price point but that's also the snag - its price point. The Honor 8X looks and feels more expensive than it is but when you start to look a little closer, some of the features aren't quite as good as the phone looks. The second lens making up the dual rear camera isn't great meaning that the bokeh effect isn't always spot on, there is no 4K video mode, the AI can be a little overzealous, and there's the small annoying matter of a microUSB connection. However, on the other side of the coin, the Night mode is excellent, selfies are great, the day-to-day picture quality is good, and the screen is pretty much spot-on. Don't forget that a Pro mode is available, too, something that's still lacking from Apple! Also, I know we've mentioned it already, but it's a lovely looking phone that could fool most into thinking it costs a lot more than it does.

So, who should buy this phone? We would say, teenagers as it's reasonably priced, looks cool, has an easy-to-use camera app that means selfies will be social media ready in minutes. Other people who may be interested in the Honor 8X are those who aren't brand loyal and simply want a good performing phone with a decent camera, a large 6.5inch screen, good battery life and style at a price that won't have them taking out a small loan.

Yes, the Honor 8X isn't perfect but it's perfect enough to warrant giving it a 'Recommended' award, in our review.

Camera features at a glance: Rear dual-lens (20mp f/1.8 + 2mp), 16mp f/2.0 front-facing "selfie" camera, Night Mode, AI, Pro Mode, ISO50-3200, Full HD and Slo-Mo video (no 4K).

Available for under £200 / $170.

2. Nokia 7.1  - Under £200

Nokia 7 1 Blue (2)

The Nokia 7.1 has an excellent screen, a dual-camera set-up and can shoot 4K video which are all features you don't always see in budget-friendly smartphones. Image-wise, they're pretty decent but it's no surprise that when light levels drop, so does the quality of the photo you can capture.

If you're looking for a smart-looking smartphone that can take good photos, has 4K video built in and has a good screen, the Nokia 7.1 could fit the bill. It's a budget-friendly smartphone that improves on its predecessor so if you're not brand-loyal and simply want a good performing phone, the Nokia 7.1 might be the smartphone for you.

Camera features at a glance: Rear Camera: 12mp, f/1.8 main lens and a 5mp, f/2.4 secondary lens (ZEISS optics), Front Camera: 8mp, f/2.0 (ZEISS optics), Video: 1080p (both cameras), 4K (rear camera), Pro Mode, ISO 50-3200.

Available for under £200 / $250.

3. Huawei P Smart 2019  - Under £160

P Smart 2019 |

If you want to make a sensible choice when it comes to buying a smartphone, don't want to spend hundreds, or even thousands, on a device but still want decent specs, the Huawei P Smart 2019 is well worth considering. Does it have the best camera? No, but it's not terrible by any means and although it lacks some of the bells and whistles other smartphones have, for under £160, we're sure you won't miss them too much.

Photos captured are great for those who just want to share images on social media and don't intend to do much else with them and, of course, the price means you shouldn't expect flagship quality anyway. Having said that, when light levels are good, the camera performs well and there are plenty of creative effects (aperture mode, portrait mode, light painting etc.) built in, too. There's no 4K video which is a shame as some competitors do offer this but the battery is rather impressive, even if the inclusion of a microUSB port isn't quite as appealing.

As for the smartphone's design, the ombre effect on the device we had in for testing is lovely and the rounded corners/edges, as well as the dewdrop top-notch, give the smartphone a more premium look without the price. Yes, it's constructed from plastic but it certainly doesn't look cheap - but it is prone to collecting scratches/fingerprints so pop a case on it.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 is an affordable, 'head overrules heart' smartphone and so long as you read the specs/features list before parting with your cash, you won't be disappointed.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/1.8 rear camera, with 2mp secondary camera. 8mp f/2.0 selfie camera, Pro mode, Night mode, FullHD video recording.

Available for £160 / $199

There's an 8mp f/2.2 selfie camera in the notch on the front. There's also 4GB ram and 64GB storage, which is generous for a budget smartphone. You can record 4K video with the rear camera, and there's a 3000mAh battery.

7. Honor 9 Lite  - Under £160

Honor 9 Lite (9)

The Honor 9 Lite looks great, with a stylish design, good colours, and a large 18:9 screen. It also offers a good amount of storage considering the price. However, the camera(s) on the smartphone is a little disappointing. Video quality is quite low, and the lack of image stabilisation is particularly noticeable. The budget price is hard to argue with though, and for general use, the smartphone offers an appealing option.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/2.2 rear camera with 2mp bokeh camera, 13mp f/2.0 selfie camera with 2mp bokeh camera, manual controls, FullHD video.
