you can get a lemon no matter what brand. seems each brand has a particular feature at which they excel, just depends on what you need or want. none of the p&s water/weatherproof cameras are going to win a prize for IQSad with the exception of the Nikon 1 AW1 but it isn't a true point&shoot. i own an Olympus TG620 and have never had any problems and it's been through hell. it routinely functions at 0 degrees F, takes above average photos and videos and has a very good feature set.less than $120 investment.SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile
An Olympus TG-4 has been good to me. It's a way above standard instrument with great fast optics, Raw mode, and some clever features that make it a travelers' bud. For the naturalist in you, extreme macro with an optional ring-light accessory (that weighs maybe an ounce!) and built-in focus stacking. GPS, sure, but also altitude, depth (in water) and compass. Where you were, how high/deep, which direction you're pointing how's that for photo-documentation! It stitches horizontal and vertical panoramas in-camera with easy visual guidance, has an intervalometer and video up to 240fps for hummingbirds and other fast ones. Filter threads, too. Remote viewing, control, shooting and download from Apple/Android phones/tablets via Wi-Fi. (And all the usual features on an easy menu system.) All that and it slips into your pocket. Quite the winner.

The Pentax DSLR K-2S might be worth a mention. I bought mine in June and have used it in pouring rain to get the effects of rain on boat reflections, and it is still working perfectly.
