If you're looking for a smartphone with a decent camera that won't cost you an arm and a leg, then you've landed on the right page as we've lined-up the most affordable smartphones to date, great for if you're on a budget, and looking for a smartphone under £200

Now, these phones tend to not have the greatest specs in the world but with 12/13MP cameras, the ability to record Full HD video and an abundance of photography apps available, they're great tools for those who want to simply share images to social media or send them to friends/family via WhatsApp, Email etc. Plus, you can connect them up to an Instax Printer and print off really cute, mini instant photos that look great hung in washing line-style frames. They're also a great first phone for nagging teenagers who, obviously, will want the latest-and-greatest devices but in reality, parents may want to spend as little as possible on their first smart device.

At the time of writing, all of these smartphones are available for under £200 but, of course, this can change so some may just creep above the £200 mark.

As with all of our top lists, you can purchase/find more information about each cheap smartphone listed by clicking the green Amazon buttons featured below each product. 1. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T   - Under £200

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T Smartphone

The mid-range smartphone market is bursting at the seems which makes it harder and harder to find devices that sit in this range that impress but as the Redmi Note 8T is actually a budget smartphone, thanks to costing less than £200, it doesn't have such a fight on its hands. What this means is that the good-quality quad-camera, impressive selfie camera and other decent specs make it stand out from the list and thanks to the price, make it a smartphone we can easily recommend.

Of course, if you're a brand snob you're not going to give the Redmi Note 8T a second thought but for someone not wanting to spend a lot of cash who still wants a smartphone that can capture good-quality images for sharing online, the Redmi Note 8T is worth considering.

There are some areas where the Redmi Note 8T doesn't quite match some other smartphones but for the money, you can get used to the slightly chunky design.

Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T is a mid-range smartphone with a budget smartphone price.

Camera features at a glance: 48MP f/1.8 26mm (wide) PDAF, 8MP f/2.2 13mm (ultrawide), 2MP f/2.4 (macro), 2MP f/2.4 (depth sensor), Selfie Camera: 13MP f/2.0 (wide), Video: 4K (rear only) and HD - 2160p at 30fps,1080p at 30/60/120fps and 720p at 960fps, Modes: Night, 48M, Portrait (beauty/bokeh/filter effects), Macro, HDR, AI, Panorama, Pro, Short Video, Video, Slow Motion

2. Huawei P Smart 2019  - Under £160

P Smart 2019 |

If you want to make a sensible choice when it comes to buying a smartphone, don't want to spend hundreds, or even thousands, on a device but still want decent specs, the Huawei P Smart 2019 is well worth considering. Does it have the best camera? No, but it's not terrible by any means and although it lacks some of the bells and whistles other smartphones have, for under £160, we're sure you won't miss them too much.

Photos captured are great for those who just want to share images on social media and don't intend to do much else with them and, of course, the price means you shouldn't expect flagship quality anyway. Having said that, when light levels are good, the camera performs well and there are plenty of creative effects (aperture mode, portrait mode, light painting etc.) built-in, too. There's no 4K video which is a shame as some competitors do offer this but the battery is rather impressive, even if the inclusion of a microUSB port isn't quite as appealing.

As for the smartphone's design, the ombre effect on the device we had in for testing is lovely and the rounded corners/edges, as well as the dewdrop top-notch, give the smartphone a more premium look without the price. Yes, it's constructed from plastic but it certainly doesn't look cheap - but it is prone to collecting scratches/fingerprints so pop a case on it.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 is an affordable, 'head overrules heart' smartphone and so long as you read the specs/features list before parting with your cash, you won't be disappointed.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/1.8 rear camera, with 2mp secondary camera. 8mp f/2.0 selfie camera, Pro mode, Night mode, FullHD video recording.

Available for around £140

3. Nokia 5.3  - Under £150

Nokia 5.3

The Nokia 5.3 is unique in that it offers the quad-camera setup for a very low price point. This coupled with its high mAh battery rating, USB-C port and a decent processor, make it a powerful phone with many features found on higher-spec mobiles.

However, the very basic camera app and easily scratched rear panel do let it down. Image quality is good from the main camera, excellent from the macro camera but is let down by the wide-angle camera which has very bad distortion and produces images lacking detail. If you're desperate for the quad-camera setup and don't have a very big budget, then this phone could be the answer but don't expect amazing photos. There's no manual mode and little in the way of editing ability in-camera. It's a large handset that's available in 3 trendy colours which should make it a hit for the younger market though.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/1.8 rear camera, with 2mp secondary camera. 8mp f/2.0 selfie camera, Pro mode, Night mode, FullHD video recording.

Available for around £146

The smartphone has a large 6.21inch FullHD+ screen with a good screen to body ratio, there is 3GB RAM and 64GB storage, all excellent for a budget smartphone. There's a 13mp f/1.8 rear camera, with a 2mp bokeh camera, and the selfie camera is a 24mp f/2.0 dewdrop design, taking up less of the front screen. The camera offers FullHD video recording.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/1.8 rear camera with 2mp bokeh camera, 24mp f/2.0 dewdrop selfie camera, FullHD video recording.

5. Nokia 5.1 Plus  - Under £130

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is a budget smartphone, available for under £130, it's one of the cheapest on offer from the "main" brands. It offers 3GB ram and 32GB storage, and there's a 13mp rear camera with a 5mp depth camera. The selfie camera is an 8mp camera, and you can upgrade the memory with the MicroSD card slot if you need to. There's a 5.8inch screen with a top-notch design.

Camera features at a glance: 13mp f/2.0 main camera with 5mp bokeh camera, 8mp f/2.2 selfie camera, manual options, FullHD video.

6. Huawei P30 Lite  - Under £200

Huawei P30 Lite

The Huawei P30 Lite might not have quite as many of the pro-quality features we see on the P30 Pro, and other flagships, but for those who don't want to spend a lot of money on a smartphone, the price of the P30 Lite could be an attractive pull.

It has a triple camera, and, OK, sometimes the shots are a little oversaturated and the 48MP sensor isn't that great but for those who simply want to share images online with friends, the P30 Lite does an OK job. Plus, selfies are actually rather good so those who regularly use Snapchat or Instagram will be happy.

You get plenty of storage, good AI features and the overall design of the P30 Lite makes it look a lot more expensive than it is. The screen-to-body ratio is excellent with the dewdrop front-facing camera not only taking up less room but it also makes the smartphone look cooler, too.

For those looking for a budget-friendly, modern-looking smartphone which will capture decent images for sharing online, the Huawei P30 Lite could be on your 'worth considering' list.

Camera features at a glance: 48MP f/1.8 wide-angle lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP bokeh lens (supports AF). 24MP f/2.0 selfie camera, Full HD video, Pro Mode, AI, Portrait mode, Aperture mode, 3440mAh battery

Available for £182
