11. Fujinon XF 200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR

Fuji Xf 200mm F2 Front Oblique View | 1/13 sec | f/16.0 | 48.0 mm | ISO 100

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR is not into super-telephoto territory; even with the crop factor we are still only talking about 305mm or 427mm with the TC. However, at f/2 we are looking at some improved shutter speeds for stopping the action. The AF is fast, the handling is great, even the weight does not seem so bad as the balance on the camera is very good indeed.

The price is high of course and is bound to be with those huge Super ED and ED elements and that f/2 aperture. For some, this will be a must-have lens, and despite the high cost it still has to be Highly Recommended.

12. Nikon AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR

Nikon 500mm F5,6E Top View

It's a powerful package; light, compact, efficient and very high quality. It is probably one of the easiest 500mm lenses to use as a consequence of the reduced weight and size, as they are specialised lenses that challenge us photographically to get the best out of them. Even on a tripod, the slightest nudge will send the images into paroxysms of shake, so achieving the sharpest results needs the sharpest techniques.

Hand held, the VR system locks on admirably and makes a huge difference to the success rate.

All in all, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR is a tremendous ultra-telephoto lens that is Highly Recommended.

I realize that you earn your income through click-throughs and sales referrals, but have you ever considered reviewing some classic lenses of the past, just for comparison sake?

In particular, Olympus made a lens, the OM-System Zuiko 250mm /2.0, that NASA said was the best lens they had ever tested. Seems like a review of such a lens would add an interesting perspective to these modern-day lenses!
