The Digital SLR or DSLR is a popular choice for enthusiasts, lets you change your lens, making it a versatile option for those that also want an optical viewfinder. Many of the latest DSLRs also feature built-in Wi-Fi making it easy to transfer photos to your smartphone or tablet.
These cameras all feature an APS-C sized sensor, also known as crop sensor. Make sure you click the name to read the full reviews to find out the pros and cons of each model shown below, and how we score the cameras.

4 - Canon EOS 90D
If you're looking for a Digital SLR, then the Canon EOS 90D gives a range of compelling features, that make it a great choice. As a DSLR, rather than a mirrorless camera, it also offers exceptional battery life, with 1300 shots possible before the battery is depleted. The ability to focus on a subjects face, while using the optical viewfinder, is incredibly useful for portraits. In-camera raw editing is easy to use and can produce some great results.
From the outside the EOS 90D may look just like every other Canon DSLR, with a conservative design, but inside is where the most of the differences can be found. Canon has developed a new 32mp APS-C CMOS sensor, yet don't seem to have been massively hit by increased noise, when compared to other Canon DSLRs. It offers a higher resolution sensor than others, and the 4K video using the full width of the sensor will be a massive positive for many.
The Canon EOS 90D offers a range of features and specifications that give the consumer added choice when it comes to buying a DSLR, you can now choose between 20mp, 24mp, and 32mp APS-C DSLRs, and the Canon EOS 90D is one of the most well-thought-out DSLRs to date.

5 - Canon EOS 850D (Rebel T8i)
Compared to cheaper Canon and Nikon DSLRs, the Canon EOS 850D offers a better specification with quicker continuous shooting at 7/7.5fps, as well as more focus points, and 4K UHD video recording.
However, when you look at the mirrorless camera market, not only do you get a smaller camera (in most cases), you also get faster continuous shooting speeds (between 9fps and upto 20/30fps), you also get in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) in some cameras, plus better 4K video recording, with some offering unlimited video recording. And you also get to save money with many of these options.
It's also worth noting that 4K video on the 850D is heavily cropped, with slow(er) focus, and we also noticed the rolling shutter effect (jello) in our videos.
Handling and ergonomics is a strong point of the camera, with a large, comfortable grip, and the addition of a second command wheel on the back is a welcome addition which makes the shooting experience better.
If you're looking for a DSLR, and want to use one of the many EF/EF-S lenses available, then the 850D is a very good DSLR, with good battery life, and great image quality (when paired with a decent lens) however, there's a big range of mirrorless cameras, which we think you should take a serious look at.
