The creative COOPH team has a new photography tutorial to share with you and for this one, you just need your smartphone and a good imagination.

Today's theme is 'miniature figure photography' where tiny toys have been placed on keyboards, worktops and other everyday surfaces to transform them into construction sites, ski resorts and more.

"The idea behind this unique style of photography is to integrate a true-scale object into a miniature world," says COOPH.

When you click 'play' on the video tutorial you'll be able to gain inspiration from several fun photography ideas which include:

Keyboard Construction

  • Get yourself some construction worker miniature figures
  • Carefully lift off a key
  • Position the figures around the missing key (COOPH use temporary glue)
  • Capture your photo (some smartphones have specific macro modes which might be useful)

Winter Games

  • Crack open and drain a coconut
  • Use winter sport themed figures for this one
  • Position them as you want them to appear
  • Place on a plain background (black works best)
  • Get a bag of flour and sieve some onto the scene as yourself, or a friend clicks the shutter button.

Beach Life

  • Find a glass you can put a blue liquid in along with an ice cube and a slice of lemon
  • Get your beach-themed models and position them in the scene
  • Capture your photo

These are just a few ideas for your miniature scenes - there are plenty more ways you can have fun with a small world theme. In fact, there are some great examples over in our Gallery which range from a problem with bread, a lovely Christmas theme and board maintenance
