Transcend 32GB Ultimate CompactFlash UDMA7 1000X Card in Memory Cards

32GB Ultimate CompactFlash UDMA7 1000X Card

The Transcend Ultimate CompactFlash card is the fastest compact flash card from Transcend offering 1000x speed, the latest UDMA 7 technology, as well as video performance guarantee. On the box it also promises 160MB/s read and 120MB/s write speeds.

Transcend Ultimate Compact Flash 1000x Features

Included is a lifetime warranty, RecoveRx software (available to download, which works with all versions of Windows from XP upwards, as well as Mac OS X), as well as a rough guide as to how many photos and videos you can fit on the card. The card is packaged inside a small CompactFlash card holder which is in the middle of protective plastic packaging. Shown above, these photos show the card as larger than life-size, and on the back of the card is space for writing your details.

With 32GB storage space, Transcend say you can store 6528 JPEG images at 10 megapixels, we'd estimate around 4,000 JPEG images at 16 megapixels, or 1300+ Raw images from the Canon EOS 5D Mk III, or 1.5 hours of FullHD video recording.

Transcend Ultimate Compact Flash 1000x Performance

We tested the card with a USB3.0 Lexar multi-card reader. These are the speeds we got with this card:

Transcend Ultimate: USB3.0 Read / Write: 87.54 MB/s / 69.64 MB/s
Transcend Premium: USB3.0 Read / Write: 78.29 MB/s / 34.73 MB/s

To test the read and write times of these cards, we used a USB 3.0 card reader and CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 x64, with UDMA7 firmware update. For digital cameras, the write time is the most important aspect as this determines how quickly you can write photos from the camera to the card. The read time is important when you want to copy the photos from the card onto your PC or view them in playback mode on the camera.

Write Speed MB/s Read Speed MB/s
Transcend 1000x CF UDMA 7 32GB 69.64 87.54
Transcend 800x CF UDMA 7 128GB 34.73 78.29
Sandisk Extreme Pro 90MB/s UDMA 6 32GB 36.63 33.85
Kingston Ultimate 600X 16GB 29.11 45.66

While read and write speed is not as quick as specified on the box, the high-speed read and write speeds means that copying (reading) files from the card and putting them on your computer will be very quick. Fast write speeds mean that continuous shooting with a camera won't be slowed down by the memory card, and the performance of the Transcend Ultimate Compact Flash card is much quicker than offered by any of the other cards used here.

Value For Money

The Transcend Ultimate 1000x Compact Flash card is available for £51 for the 32GB card, and comes with RecoveRx software and a Lifetime warranty. This is roughly the same price as the Sandisk Extreme PRO 32GB card (£50), and more expensive than the Lexar 1066x 32GB card (£39).
