Transcend StoreJet M25H3 Portable Hard Drive Performance

The drive comes ready to plug in and use, but you can also use the software which is on the drive to enhance the functionality. The Transcend Elite Data management program allows you to create backups, encrypt data, sync bookmarks and restore your backups if you lose the data. When you have created a backup you can set it to run using the one touch backup (OTB) button. The RecoverX software successfully recovered some images we'd deleted from the drive, with the StoreJet Toolbox allowing you to format the drive.

We ran the drive through the CrystalDiskMark software using USB 2.0 and 3.0. Using USB 3.0 we weren't able to get anywhere near the 5Gb/s mentioned on the packaging, but speeds were around three times quicker than USB 2.0.

Transcend StoreJet M25H3 Portable Hard Drive Verdict

The Transcend StoreJet M25H3 is a rugged portable hard drive which looks stylish and can transfer data at high speeds via USB 3.0. We weren't able to achieve the 5Gb/s as suggested on the list of features but it is 3x quicker than USB 2.0. Thanks to the supplied software and OTB button, it's extremely easy to use the drive to backup all your important data.

Hello ePHOTHOzine,
I noticed one of your comments under the Cons section:
- Manual mentions a USB Y-cable which isn't supplied (USB 3.0 cable supplied)

The Transcend StoreJet 25H3 is a USB 3.0 drive which does not require a USB Y-Cable.
This information is on the Quick Start Guide Tongue

As I understand it, some drives draw more current than can be supplied by one usb port, hence the supply of a Y-cable with some drives. As USB 3 ports provide a greater current this should not be a problem, but what if you want to connect this drive to a USB 2 port - is its current requirement well within the USB 2 spec?
