The UK Government are due to implement new regulations regarding the use of drones in the UK that weigh over 250g.
| DJI Spark in DronesThe UK Government are due to introduce drone registration and safety awareness courses for owners of drones weighing over 250g. This includes even the most compact drones from DJI and Yuneec, such as the DJI Spark, shown above, which weighs 300g, and the Yuneec Breeze which weighs 385g.
This means all serious drones will need to be registered, and a safety awareness course taken. Leaving just "toy" or "pocket" drones, such as the ZeroTech Dobby, which weighs 199g, as the only option if you don't wish to register your drone.
There is no time frame or rules in place as yet, so as to how and when this will be implemented or enforced is unknown, and it's not known whether there will be any costs involved.
This does not affect the current regulations that require commercial use of drones be registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA): "You must have a Permission issued by the CAA before you conduct any commercial operations with your drone."
