The organisers of Link2001 have decided to cancel this year's staging of the event. Behind this decision is the recognition that a number of factors have come together which makes holding the exhibition inappropriate at this time and in the present circumstances.
One contributory aspect is the current reassessment being undertaken by companies of the importance of exhibitions within their priorities of promotional and marketing expenditure at a time when such events are particularly susceptible to influences outside their control, especially given the current volatile global economy.
The area of concern which has tipped the balance, and which has proved to be the catalyst for a number of companies expressing concern over their participation in Link2001, is the holding of an exhibition in the face of much worry and public confusion over the effects of increasing restrictions on travel. This applies both to movement around the country and between the UK and the Continent, from where a number of visitors had registered their intention to attend. It is a situation which has already seen the cancellation of many sporting and leisure events, and the closure of numerous tourist attractions.
